I am a BACP senior accredited counsellor of adults, children and young people and the author of the recently published book: ‘Counselling Young People: A Practitioner Manual’ (Sage/BACP 2018) and ‘Counselling Children and Young People in Private Practice: A Practical Guide.’ (Karnac Books, 2015)
I trained originally in psychotherapeutic counselling at The University of Sussex. After finishing this training in 2002 I went on to work as a school counsellor for several years while also establishing a private practice working with adults. I have worked as a counsellor in a wide variety of settings including primary and secondary school, academies and in community based services. During this time I managed counselling services in educational settings, providing counselling to students as well as support, training and supervision to school staff.
In 2014 I decided to focus on my private practice with young people having left the field of school counselling, and it was from this decision that the idea for my first book came. I was interested in the particular issues that the therapist who works with young people in private practice faces and the ways in which this work differs from work with young people in other settings.
I currently work in private practice in the Brighton and Hove area, seeing adults, children and young people as well as offering clinical supervision to colleagues working with these groups. If you are interested in finding out more about my practice please see http://rebeccakirkbride.com/141-2
I am also Senior Lecturer/Programme Convenor for the MA in Integrative Child, Adolescent and Family Counselling and Psychotherapy at the University of Roehampton.
